Social vs Apify: LinkedIn Data for AI Agents
Choose the dev_fusion LinkedIn Profile Scraper on Apify when your agent needs batch profile data from known URLs without connecting your own LinkedIn account. Choose Social when the job also needs your account’s messages, invitations, or posts.
Facts checked October 14, 2026 · Documented workflows, not firsthand tests
Which should you choose?
Choose Social if
profile research leads to work through your own LinkedIn identity, such as a reviewed reply, message, or connection request. You want account context and actions in the same agent workflow.
Choose Apify if
you need URL-based batch enrichment and downloadable datasets. The selected community Actor documents cookie-free operation, and Apify provides MCP for running it and retrieving results.
Switching probably isn’t worth it if your Apify pipeline already returns the required fields and the job is read-only enrichment. Connecting a social account and rebuilding the data mapping adds little to that job.
The same job, two workflows
Turn known profile URLs into a structured research file
Start with: A CSV containing 100 LinkedIn profile URLs and a requested output schema: source URL, name, headline, company, and missing-field notes. Keep unavailable records visible rather than silently dropping them.
Use this evaluation brief
Replace the bracketed input with your own approved data. This is a prompt to reproduce the comparison, not a tested result or authorization to send.
Input: { "profileUrls": ["https://www.linkedin.com/in/[approved-profile-slug]/"] }
Replace the bracketed slug with a real approved profile, then expand to 100 known URLs. Return source URL, name, headline, company, and missing-field notes. Keep one checkpoint per input URL and preserve unavailable records. With Apify, pass profileUrls to dev_fusion/linkedin-profile-scraper and retrieve its dataset. With Social, read the same URLs through the connected account. Do not send or publish anything.Social
- Connect Social’s MCP server to your agent and authorize a LinkedIn account. Give it the URL list and requested output schema.
- Ask it to read each profile using Social’s profile tools, keep a checkpoint for each URL, and map the results into the requested fields. Respect account limits and retain failures for review.
- Save the structured output and review a ten-profile sample against the sources. Draft or execute account actions only as a separate, explicitly approved step.
Output: Profile results mapped by your agent, with your connected account available for separately approved actions.
Apify
- Connect Apify’s MCP server and inspect the dev_fusion/linkedin-profile-scraper Actor’s input schema and pricing. Use a paid platform plan for the programmatic workflow described here.
- Call that Actor with the profileUrls input containing the same URLs. Its documentation says LinkedIn cookies are not required.
- Wait for the run to finish, retrieve the dataset with get-dataset-items, and export or map the rows to the requested schema. Review the same ten-profile sample and retain failed inputs.
Output: The selected Actor’s profile dataset, available as JSON, CSV, or Excel. This Actor is a data extractor; this comparison does not describe every Actor in Apify’s marketplace.
These steps follow the documentation; we haven’t tested the workflows firsthand. Follow the Social setup instructions and Apify workflow documentation, then compare the output before committing.
What changes your decision
Scroll to compare both products.
| Requirement | Social | Apify |
|---|---|---|
| Agent integration | Hosted MCP and CLI. Bring your own agent to combine research, messages, publishing, and engagement; you define the workflow. | Apify MCP supports Actor discovery, execution, and dataset retrieval. Hosted OAuth and local stdio options are documented; MCP is available on both sides. |
| Account access | The grant defines access, and the account selector chooses the connected identity. Write tools execute real actions; your MCP client or agent must obtain your approval. | This Actor accepts profileUrls without LinkedIn cookies. Its published README limits Free users to UI runs, ten profiles per run, and ten runs per day; paid users can use API and CLI. |
| Returned data | CLI reads return JSON, and explicit sync can populate a local SQLite mirror for SQL queries. Design your own CSV or CRM mapping from the returned data. | Structured profile output can be exported as CSV, JSON, or Excel. Compare sample fields and unavailable records before relying on enrichment completeness. |
| Actions after research | Connected-account tools include messages, connection requests, posts, comments, and reactions. Your agent must get approval before executing writes. | The selected Actor scrapes profile data. Other capabilities depend on other Actors and their own contracts; it is not evidence that the whole Apify platform lacks social account actions. |
| Deployment and usage | Hosted account API and MCP service, with a CLI on your machine. The CLI is not a self-hosted replacement for the hosted service. | Actors run on Apify’s hosted platform. Starter includes $19 of monthly spend, with additional usage charged beyond it. Actor pricing and platform charges determine the bill. |
Price the same scenario
One operator and 1,000 successfully returned LinkedIn profiles during one month, using programmatic access. The 100-profile evaluation above is a sample of this monthly workload. Neither product’s completion rate or runtime was tested.
Social
One connected LinkedIn account: $20/month, plus your agent or model costs. Flat proxy pricing does not guarantee that 1,000 reads can complete on your required timetable; account limits still apply.
Apify
The selected Actor costs $10 per 1,000 returned results: 1,000 × $0.01 = $10. For this Actor’s programmatic access, Starter is a $19/month platform minimum with $19 included spend. Do not add $10 to $19 if that usage is covered; other platform charges or additional usage can increase the final invoice.
Apify’s $19 minimum comes from its platform pricing, linked in the table above. It is not a guaranteed final bill for the workload. AI/model costs and taxes are excluded on both sides. The selected Actor is community-maintained; its price and availability are separate from Apify’s platform subscription. No cost-per-complete-profile winner has been measured.
Before you switch
- Save the Actor’s input schema, output samples, dataset, and per-URL completion checkpoints. Keep your downstream field mappings and missing-record rules.
- If moving to Social, connect an authorized LinkedIn account and map its returned fields into your schema. There is no verified automatic import of an Apify dataset or restoration of run state.
- Compare ten identical URLs before switching the pipeline: returned fields, unavailable profiles, duplicate handling, freshness, and account limits. Preserve successful-row checkpoints so retries neither skip records nor repeat unnecessary paid work.

How we prepared this comparison
Prepared by Social, the product being compared, with Cyrus Nouroozi as the responsible author. Facts checked October 14, 2026 against the linked public pricing and product documentation and Social’s implementation. Competitor features are documented only, not tested firsthand. Prices are USD before tax. We have not measured deliverability, account restriction rates, or performance. Product changes require checking the affected claims and calculations again.
